Course Objectives

This course aims to examine the theory and implementation of language policy and language policy in various policies and jurisdictions in local and global areas. Throughout the course, consideration is given to the application of knowledge gained to real world situations. Various notions of what language policy consists of, how it operates, its historical roots, and ways it can be studied empirically is examined.

  2. recognize the factors that go into language planning decisions at local, national and international levels,
  3. analyze the effects of language policy decisions,
