This course aims to introduce students to experimental approaches for research topics in social psychology (e.g., prejudice, helping, aggression). The content of the course is designed to familiarize students with the experimental methods employed in laboratory, field, and online research. The course covers the advantages and the importance of experimental approaches, research steps required for designing and conducting an experimental study as well as ethical issues common in experimental social psychology. The course will help students to practice their research skills for conducting (including design, analysis, and reporting) an experimental study in social psychology.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the methodological and ethical characteristics of experiments conducted in laboratory, field, and online social psychology research.
- Identify the importance and advantages of experimental studies in social psychology.
- Apply their knowledge for designing and conducting an experimental study in social psychology.
- Analyze the data which is collected as a part of an experimental study in social psychology.
- Formulate implications of an experimental research in social psychology.
- Interpret the findings of an experimental study in social psychology.
