Selçuk Pehlivanoğlu was born in 1963 and graduated from TED Ankara College in 1981.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Middle East Technical University in 1987 and subsequently worked in Germany as a civil engineer for a short period.

Pehlivanoğlu began his professional career as the Director General of Sepe Construction Trade and Industry Company. His political career started in 1993, when he founded the Volunteer Group of the Motherland Party (Anavatan Partisi), serving as its president for several years. In 1997, he was appointed Vice President of Organization and elected as a member of the Central Executive Board.

He was nominated as a parliamentary candidate from Ankara in the 1999 general elections and served between 1999 and 2001 as Deputy Chairman and President of Subsidiary Organizations. In 2002, he continued his political career as Deputy Chairman, Head of Election Affairs, and President of the Volunteer Group.

Since 2003, Selçuk Pehlivanoğlu has been serving as the President of the Turkish Education Association (Türk Eğitim Derneği). He is also the Founder and Chairperson of the Board of TED Higher Education Foundation and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of TED University.

He is married and the father of two children.
