This course aims to raise students’ understanding on certain critical issues in the field of engineering including professional ethics, the need for lifelong education, entrepreneurship and innovation, the effects of engineering applications on health, environment and safety; and provide basic knowledge on various topics including engineering standards, sustainable development, project management, risk management and change management. The course also provides an opportunity to students to work on a selected theme in a group project and demonstrate an effective contribution in line with their disciplinary background.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to;
- Recognize ethical conduct and responsibility in engineering applications,
- Identify engineering standards,
- Show an awareness for the need for lifelong learning and ways of pursuing it,
- Show an understanding of business applications of project management, risk management and change management,
- Recognize entrepreneurship and innovation applications,
- Identify sustainable development goals and opportunities,
- Recognize effects of engineering applications on health, environment and safety,
- Recognize potential legal consequences of engineering applications,
- Demonstrate an effective contribution to a project in multidisciplinary engineering team.
