Catalog Description
Introduction to the planning and the design of facilities; Analytical methods for facility location and layout analysis; Planar and discrete facility location problems; Assignment problems; Activity and flow analysis; Facility design tools; Warehouse system design; Materials handling systems.
Course Objectives

The course aims to teach modeling various problems in facility location and layout, quantitative and qualitative tools in facility layout. The course aims to introduce various layout design approaches, and basics in warehouse system design and material handling systems.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the students will be able to; 

1) Formulate mathematical models for the problems in facility location,

2) Solve facility location problems by using programming software,

3) Use quantitative tools to model facility layout problems,

4) Use qualitative tools to model and solve facility layout problems,

5) Analyze the fundamentals of warehouse system design,

6) Discuss tactical and operational warehouse decisions.
