Catalog Description

Modes of heat transfer: conduction, convection and radiation. Steady and transient one and multi-dimensional heat conduction in systems. Numerical methods and special applications. Internal and external laminar and turbulent forced convection. Heat transfer by radiation. Fundamentals of heat exchangers.

Course Objectives

The course aims to introduce students the modes of heat transfer including conduction, convection, and radiation with the help of basic equations, applications, and numerical and theoretical calculations.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Identify modes of heat transfer,
2. Perform steady conduction heat transfer analysis in one and multi-dimensional systems using theoretical and numerical methods,
3. Solve transient conduction heat transfer problems,
4. Analyze convective heat transfer,
5. Describe the basics of radiation heat transfer.
