This course aims to introduce current themes and debates in contemporary architectural practices both in the world and Turkey. The course intends to trace the development of architecture since the early 80s by discussing the works of some of the most influential architects of our time. Discussions and assignments aim at developing critical readings of both architectural works and writings. The critical reflection on contemporary issues and practices will make students to better understand the discipline and profession of architecture; understand how the influential architects of our time react to current challenges and opportunities in our profession and society.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Recognize the significant examples of architectural practices and ideas since the late 20th century
2. Discuss several key issues in contemporary architectural thought and practice that range across questions of city, construction, and innovative practice
3. Practice architectural research and writing,
4.Analyze universal and local qualities in the development of architectural thought and practice,
5. Interpret contemporary issues and architectural works,
6. Produce a report on the contemporary architectural discourses.
