Catalog Description
An introduction to parametric design. Understanding computer-aided design’s theoretical background through its applicable models. Gaining familiarity to concepts like algorithm, parameter, topology and form. Descriptive exploration of architectural examples through parametric design tools. Generating variations of architectural examples via innovative techniques.
Course Objectives

Together with parametric design’s upsurge from the last decade of the 20th century on, the course tries to make an introduction for the students by presenting essential knowledge about the concept of parametric design through exemplary applications. Analyzing and devising algorithms attained from the analyses of buildings and/or projects will provide the students an integral understanding of parametric design thinking.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to

1) Understand the fundamental knowledge of parametric and computer-aided design,

2) Acquire essential skills for the implementation of computer-aided design tools,

3) Develop a foundation of parametric design that is crucial for further development of such knowledge and skills,

4) Generate alternative instances of architectural examples through algorithms and determined parameters.
