Catalog Description
Historical development of the European Union (EU) and the political integration process. The EU’s institutional structure. Common EU policies. The EU enlargement processes. Major political issues: migration policies, democracy, identity, nationalism.
Course Objectives
This course aims to provide the students with an overview of the historical development of the European Union (EU) and the political integration process.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon succesful completion of this course, a student will be able to
1. Describe the European Union’s (EU) historical development
2. Recite the European Economic Community’s founding philosophy
3. Analyze the European Union’s economic and political integration process
4. Depict all EU’s agreements and treaties from Rome to Lisbon and beyond
5. Portray the EU’s major policies and common policies
6. Illustrate the EU’s institutional structure
7. Critically evaluate the enlargement process
8. Contribute to the widening – deepening debate
9. Critique the socio-cultural and political implication of the rising radical right within Europe
