The main aim of this course is to introduce the processes, operations in production and service systems and to enable students to explore how operations management team manages all business activities to efficiently create and deliver products and services. This includes the transformation of inputs into outputs of finished goods and services, and activities throughout the supply chain. Students will explore the approach to quality management and continuous improvement in production processes. Students will discover the problems in these systems, learn the mathematical approaches to decompose and solve these problems. This course will also discuss the components of a supply chain and the importance of systems approach to manage these components.
Upon succesful completion of this course, students will be able to
1. Examine the interrelationships of operations management with the other
functions within an organization,
2. Explain the importance of operations management in achieving effective
organizational performance,
3. Investigate the importance of quality management and continuous improvement for optimizing organizational performance,
4. Develop the ability to define, model, formulate and solve real life production problems,
5. Assess the role of supply chain management in supporting an organization to satisfy customer requirements.
