Catalog Description
Process design. Systems design. Associated plant layout. Material- handling and storage systems design. Required resource examination. Cost analysis techniques. Inventory management.
Course Objectives
The main aim of this course is to introduce the components, processes, operations and principles of a manufacturing or service facility. The students will assess the objectives, constraints, performance criteria in the design of facilities. Optimization tools will be used to model and plan these systems.
Software Usage
Students will use linear and integer programming software such as Lindo, Gams, Cplex to work on their weekly assignments about 2 hours a week.

Upon succesful completion of this course, a student will be able to
1. Discover the manufacturing and service facilities and the integrated production and distribution processes
2. Assess the objectives, constraints, performance criteria in facilities design and planning
3. Identify the analytical support tools and their advantages
