Catalog Description
Basic concepts of probability, Discrete and continuous random variables, their probability distributions, expected value, variance. Discrete probability distributions, Jointly distributed and independent Random Variables. Covariance and correlation. Sampling, estimation. Hypothesis Testing and Regression.
Course Objectives
The aim of this course is to enhance the students’ comprehension in the field of Statistics; to increase students’ ability in the application of the knowledge of statistics through case studies related to engineering; to increase students’ ability to identify, formulate and solve statistical problems in a systematic way.
Course Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Compute probabilities by modeling sample spaces
- Construct the probability distribution of discrete and continuous random variables
- Calculate expected values and variances of random variables
- Apply statistical descriptors to a sample
- Practice hypothesis testing to form engineering judgement
- Interpret regression results.
