Catalog Description
Major themes in product planning and management: product, product life cycle, product hierarchy, product line, product family, product portfolio. Complexity sources of the product planning and management. Tools and techniques used in product planning and management: technology and product roadmaps, requirement management, concept development and selection, house of quality, design failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ), management science and operational research tools. Using some of the learned tools and techniques in a comprehensive project proposal and presentation.
Course Objectives

The main objective of this course is to introduce basic concepts about product planning and management, including product definition, design and planning.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to

1.Use a theoretical perspective in identification of product planning and management decisions, product design. 

2.Analyze differences between using contemporary versus traditional approaches in product management problems, 

3.Discuss issues arising in the context of product planning and management from a managerial perspective,

4.Use different tools and techniques to achieve higher quality product design.
