Catalog Description
First and second language acquisition theories; stages of language acquisition and comparison of first and second language acquisition; factors affecting second language acquisition (eg., age, attitude, motivation); comparing language acquisition of children and adults; role of language acquisition in foreign language teaching.
Course Objectives
- To define concepts and topics of language acquisition;
- to examine language acquisition processes and developmental stages; to identify learner characteristics.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
1. Identify first language (L1) acquisition processes,
2. Recognize second language (L2) learning processes,
3. Differentiate L1 and L2 acquisition/learning processes,
4. Examine language acquisition/learning theories,
