Catalog Description
Developments in British literature since the Renaissance; historical background for each period; the latest period of the Renaissance, the Restoration Period, the Romantics, the Victorian Age and Twentieth Century; analysis of selected works of the periods.
Course Objectives

To gain an understanding of English literary works in the Age of Romantics, the Victorian Age and the Twentieth Century; to identify periods in the history of English literature

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to 

  • identify English literary works in different periods (i.e. the Age of Romantics, the Victorian Age, the Twentieth Century)
  • differentiate between literary works from different periods
  • analyze the literary work in context considering the factors in a specific period
  • present a particular topic in front of the class
  • choose appropriate literary work to integrate to language teaching syllabi
