Catalog Description
Language teaching methodology; course and syllabus design; types of syllabus; lesson planning; classroom management; European Language Portfolio and Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Course Objectives
  • To get students to be acquainted with the demands of language teaching profession and its methodology; and help them gradually gain their own teaching styles.
  • To be able to identify different lesson stages, prepare lesson plans, practice lesson plans in class and reflect on classroom peers' teaching performance.

Upon succesful completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • analyze the different components of a lesson plan to teach English.
  • acquire the knowledge and skills to design a lesson plan to teach English.
  • create lesson plans to teach English to a variety of student profiles.
  • learn the techniques of teaching Vocabulary and Grammar, Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing and Integrated Skills in English
  • evaluate, adapt, and develop language teaching materials.
  • acquire skills necessary for teaching Vocabulary, Listening, Speaking, and Integrated skills in English.
  • engage in micro-teaching lessons to teach English to different proficiency levels of English.

Design Content

This course aims at improving skills necessary for conducting a needs analysis to determine the language learning needs, writing objectives, designing courses and lesson planning. It aims at equipping students with a variety of syllabus designs, classroom management skills, and unit/lesson planning types. It also includes the elements of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
