Catalog Description
Classroom based research, action research; microteaching; introduction to the opportunities for continuing professional development; integration of ELT journals and conferences; discussion of the state-of- the art articles.
Course Objectives
  • To get students to be acquainted with the demands of language teaching profession and its methodology; and help them gradually gain their own teaching styles.
  • To be able to identify different lesson stages, prepare lesson plans in the light of 21st century language teaching techniques and procedures, practice lesson plans in class, evaluate and reflect on peers' teaching performance.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon succesful completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • analyze the different components of theories, procedures and strategies in English language teaching.
  • acquire the knowledge and skills to design lesson plans to teach English to different groups of learners.
  • acquire the techniques of selecting, evaluating, adapting and developing appropriate language teaching materials.
  • learn the techniques of teaching Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and Integrated Skills.
  • engage in micro-teaching lessons to teach English to different proficiency levels of English.
  • reflect on their own and their peers’ teaching performances and experiences in a constructive way based-on the theories and procedures they have gained during the course.
  • practice the basic assessment and classroom management techniques while designing their own lessons.
