Catalog Description
Designing and planning curriculum and learning environments under the supervision of mentor teachers. Teaching as an assistant teacher. Assessing children’s learning. Engaging parents. Attending professional teacher development activities as elementary mathematics teacher.
Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to engage teacher candidates in teaching and learning experiences in real school setting, reflecting on those experiences.

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Exemplify the roles of Mathematics Education professionals
  2. Review the mathematics curriculum
  3. Plan appropriate activities for elementary and middle school mathematics lessons
  4. Employ variety of appropriate instructional approaches, strategies and tools in in elementary and middle school settings
  5. Use multiple assessment techniques to monitor learning and instruction in mathematics lessons
  6. Evaluate how teachers involve families in their children’s development and learning
  7. Reflect upon their own experience in working with elementary and middle school students.
  8. Engage in personal and professional development activities
