Catalog Description
The nature of mathematical knowledge needed in mathematics teaching. Their roles in learning. The nature of mathematical knowledge and how it is connected with teaching. Reasons for misconceptions.
Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to inform students about the nature of mathematical knowlede which has an importanst role in mathematics teaching process. In the middle school context, several misconceptions that students might have will be investigated and solutions will be generated in the light of research and field observations.

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Analyze the different points of views about how mathematical knowledge is produced.
  2. Have a grasp of different conceptions about the nature of mathematical knowledge.
  3. Understand the importance of the nature of mathematical knowledge in mathematics teaching process.
  4. Have a deep understanding about the reasons of misconceptions.
  5. Have a grasp of knowledge about the possible solutions of the misconceptions.
