Catalog Description
Goals, principles and importance of early childhood education. Child development and learning during early childhood. Early childhood teacher characteristics and competencies. Early childhood program models and approaches. Quality in early childhood programs. Role of families and community during early childhood. Asessment in early childhood education. Information and communication technology in early childhood education. Early childhood education in Turkey.
Course Objectives

The course aims to explain central goals and bases of early cildhood education, teacher, institution characteristics and some current issues
specific to early childhood period.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to; 

1.describe fundamental concepts of and facts about the field of early childhood education

2. identify the characteristics, roles, and dispositions of effective early childhood teachers

3. evaluate programs and services delivered to young children and their families.

4. compare the characteristics of infants, toddlers, preschoolers and kindergartners

5. plan developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young children

6. discuss current issues and trends in early childhood education relative to Turkey and within the context of a global society
