Catalog Description
Assessment of psychopathology, and approaches to the treatment of abnormal behavior. Current theory, research, and issues in clinical psychology. The role of clinical psychology in contemporary society.
Course Objectives

This course introduces and provides a comphrehensive overview of the field of clinical psychology with a focus both on science and clinical applications. Major topics include definition, training, and professional activities of clinical psychologists, along with history and current controversies, diagnosis according to  DSM-V, interviewing and psychological assessment methods. Students will also have a chance to learn the basics of current psychotherapy trends including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Schema Therapy.

Course Learning Outcomes

1. Understanding the evolving role of clinical psychology in current health environment.
2. Being aware of the growing importance of Culture and Diversity in contemporary Clinical Psychology.
3. Gaining knowledge of current controversies in the field of clinical psychology both in Turkey and around the world.
4. Prepearing a basic case formulation based on the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Approach.
