Catalog Description
To be able to comprehend the principles to be used in the selection and arrangement of textbooks in primary school; examine the textbooks used in practice in terms of curriculum; examine the theory, approach, philosophy and elements of the program (aim, content, teaching-learning processes, evaluation) and examine the textbooks in terms of these elements and the criteria (scientific, language, content and physical characteristics) that are taken into consideration in preparing the textbook.
Course Objectives

The purpose of this course is to teach pre-service teachers the principles to be used in the selection and arrangement of primary school textbooks, to examine the textbooks used in practice in terms of the curriculum; The aim of this course is to provide the pre-service teachers with the ability to compare textbooks used in the terms of theory, approach, philosophy and the elements of the program (aim, content, teaching-learning processes, evaluation and assessment) and to examine the criteria (scientific languae, content and physical characteristics) used in preparing textbooks.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to;

1. explain the difference between the textbook and other books,

2. list the principles to be used in the selection of primary school textbooks,

3. relate the textbooks used in the education process to the curriculum,

4. evaluate the textbooks in terms of theory, approach and philosophy adopted in the curriculum,

5. analyze textbooks in terms of objectives, content, teaching-learning processes and evaluation and assessment features of the curriculum,

6. explain the criteria of preparing textbooks,

7. evaluate the scientific language and expression used in textbooks,

8. compare the content of the textbooks with the content of the curriculum,

9. determine educational characteristics of textbooks,

10. interpret the physical properties of textbooks such as printing, painting and shape,

11. discuss the appropriateness of the textbook to student level,

12. explain the usability of textbooks.
