Catalog Description
Introduction to mechanisms. Kinematic analysis of mechanisms. Simple and planetary gear trains. Static and dynamic force analysis of mechanisms. Fundamentals of vibrations. Modeling of vibrating systems. Free and forced vibrations of single degree-of-freedom systems.
Course Objectives
This course aims to provide students with skills to model and analyse mechanisms and single degree-of-freedom vibrating systems.
Software Usage
Students will require mathematics software for homework.
Course Learning Outcomes
Having completed this course, students will be able to:
- interpret degree of freedom of mechanisms in relation to their topological characteristics,
- analyse the kinematics and dynamics of planar mechanisms,
- identify simple and planetary gear trains,
- model equivalent inertial, elastic and damping properties of vibrating systems,
- analyse free vibration of single degree-of-freedom systems calculate amplitude and phase characteristics associated with the forced response.
