Catalog Description
Explores theory, research, and practical examples around play and child development. Through collaborative discussions, small group work, playful provocations, and the use of pedagogical documentation. Building understandings of why play is essential for young children.
Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to provide detailed information about what play is and how it develops in young children, understand the social justice and equity issues associated with learning through play, and learn about frameworks for equity-centered teaching, consider the teacher’s role in promoting play and playful learning in schools, and learn strategies and tools for teaching and assessing through play, evaluate current research studies related to play in terms of the nature of the study, limitations, validity, and applicability of the findings, know about and be able to advocate for play as critical to young children’s development and learning in schools.
