The primary objectives of this course are to enable students gain an understanding of gender and sexuality as socially constructed phenomena and how they shape every social experience. This course also aims to enable students to become familiar with both theoretical discussions on gender and sexuality as well as empirical studies in the area; and to adopt a critical perspective on gender and sexuality-based inequalities in the society.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate understanding of basic concepts and theories on gender and sexuality,
2. Articulate how gender inequalities occur and affect a variety of areas in everyday life,
3. Apply the gender perspective on social, political and economic phenomenon around themselves,
4. Demonstrate examples of gender and sexuality-based inequality all around the world,
5. Discuss how gender and sexuality-based inequalities shape the discourses, policies and regulations on a wide variety of issues.
