Catalog Description
The objectives of primary school mathematics teaching, basic principles; analysis of primary mathematics curriculum from the aspects of the aim, content, philosophical approach, teaching methods, evaluation and evaluation techniques; mathematical understanding of primary school students, misconceptions and difficulties in primary school students; measurement and assessment in primary school mathematics.
Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to provide students deep understanding of primary school mathematics curriculum and its components. In addition to this, primary school students profiles from the aspect of learning of mathematics, common errors and misconceptions they have will be analyzed.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Outline the objectives of primary school mathematics instruction.
  2. Analyze the primary mathematics curriculum from several aspects including aim, philosophical approach, teaching methods and evaluation techniques.
  3. Explore the basics of mathematical understanding of primary school students.
  4. Exemplify the misconceptions and difficulties of primary school students in learning mathematics.
  5. Interpret measurement and assessment process, strategies and tools in primary school mathematics.
