Catalog Description
The importance of renewable energy in energy market and Turkey’s renewable energy potential. Renewable energy resources. Basic design principles, structure types, construction techniques and applications of renewable energy projects, environmental impacts of the renewable energy systems, the role of renewables for sustainability. Conditions of renewable energy market in Turkey and worldwide. Government agencies, laws and permissions related with renewable energy in Turkey. Case study of a real renewable energy project invested in Turkey.
Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to increase students' awareness of the importance of the renewable en-ergy; to introduce students to the most common types of the renewable energy resources, the design principles and construction applications of the renewable energy projects, the environ-mental impact and sustainability of the renewable energy resources, the laws and permissions related with renewable energy investments in Turkey. This course also aims to demonstrate to the students a real application of a renewable energy investment by considering both technical, financial and environmental aspects.

  2. Recognize the basic structural elements and of renewable energy projects [B1].
  3. Compare the application variations of the same resource by using the basic design criteria. [B6].
  4. Discover the bureaucratic procedure for these types of investments in Turkey [B3].
  5. Analyze the social, political and economic consequences of renewable energy systems [B4].
  6. Recognize all the necessary steps for a renewable investment with a case study [B1].
  7. Recommend the appropriate financial structure for the renewable investment by using feasibility principles and cash flow analysis. [B6]
  8. Develop preferred combinations of sustainable solutions and increase the sustainability of the energy system by selecting the appropriate project design. [B5].
  9. Consider the effects of renewable energy investments for the development of sustainable environment and finance [B6].
