Catalog Description
Basic processes in human memory. Topics include interference theory, the short-term/long term memory distinction, semantic memory, working memory, sensory memory, autobiographical memory, amnesia, and implicit memory.
Course Objectives

How movies such as Memento, Rainman, Cast Away help us to understand memory processes. Topics are working memory, long lasting memories, recognition memory, autobiographical memory, traumatic memories, amnesia, and dementia. Discussion of each topic in line with a related movie.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

 

1. Learn the basic theories and concepts in memory.

2. Learn why some people remember better than others.

3. Learn how memory and self is related. .

4. Learn when and how we use our memories in our daily lives.

5. Learn how movies can be helpful to understand basic cognitive functions

6. Critically analyze research findings within the are of human memory

7. Communicate research results effectively for different purposes (e.g., scientific report, to inform the audience)
