Catalog Description
Introductory course on essential translation principles and techniques. Guidance to students on how to utilise their language competence and translation skills.
Course Objectives

This course aims to provide students with the basic skills necessary to begin translating texts from English to Turkish. The course will focus on articles of various subjects and literary texts. Texts to be translated consist entirely of authentic materials, composed for native English speakers. The course is designed in the form of workshops so as to encourage the gradual building of independence, time management and communicative skills. Each of these elements will be integral to the production of viable translations.

By the end of the course the students are expected to be able to

- have a general understanding of translation criticism theory and practice.

- gain necessary skills to differentiate between error hunting, error analysis and descriptive translation criticism.

- learn how to analyze textemes, figurative uses of language and other stylistic peculiarities of the texts effectively.
