Catalog Description
The prevention mission of guidance and psychological counseling; prevention levels, theories of prevention, essential life skills and positive youth development programs; cyberbullying, sexual abuse, technology and drug abuse, suicide, school dropout, counseling and reporting for children under probation.
Course Objectives
The purpose of the course is to provide students with gaining perspective about the preventive mission of counseling and guidance. For this purpose, the students are taught to focus on the risk and protective factors in working with mental health in various settings.
Course Learning Outcomes
1. explain the basic principles of prevention in mental health
2. develop a perspective about the preventive mission of counseling and guidance
3. conceptualize risky situations in terms of prevention theories
4. develop a preventive strategy about the common risky situations encountered in educational settings
5.understand the importance of collaboration amongst the mental health professions
