This course aims to allow students to compare different approaches and theoretical perspectives to discourse analysis. The course is specifically designed to help students identify different types of written and spoken texts and genres and perform discourse and critical discourse analysis in language teaching.
At the end of this class students will be able to;
1) Compare different approaches and theoretical perspectives to discourse analysis
2) Identify different types of texts and genres
3) Perform genre analysis
4) Identify the structure of a range of spoken and written text types
5) Perform analysis of spoken and written language
6) Perform critical discourse analysis
7) Select appropriate computational tools to the analysis of texts
8) Apply discourse analysis in language teaching
