The aim of this course is to teach students the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the Turkish War of Independence, the Treaty of Lausanne and the importance of the new Turkish State.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to;
1) Explain the concepts such as reform, revolution and revolution in the context of the reforms made during the Ottoman Empire.
2) Evaluate the reasons of the decline of the Ottoman Empire within the framework of the developments in the West.
3) Compare the innovations in the last century of the Ottoman Empire with the revolutions of the Atatürk period.
4) Discuss the causes and consequences of the Balkan Wars and the First World War.
5) Explain the activities of Mustafa Kemal Pasha in organizing the National War of Independence from Samsun to Ankara.
6) Evaluate why the National Pact is still an important and indispensable document today.
7) Explain what the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly means both in terms of democracy and the establishment of a new state.
8) Compare Misak-ı Milli and Sevres agreement.
9) Evaluate the important role of Mustafa Kemal Pasha as the Commander-in-Chief in winning the War of Independence.
10) Explain the meaning and value of full independence by evaluating the conditions of Mudanya Armistice and Lausanne Peace Treaty.
