The aim of this course is to introduce the role of spirituality in counseling. To achieve this, belief systems are discussed in the context of individuals’ subjective reality, concepts such as religion and spirituality are clearly defined, and the use of spirituality in counseling is demonstrated.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
identify the role of spirituality in counseling,
distinguish spirituality and religiosity,
identify the spiritual needs of clients on the basis of their presenting problems, culture, nationality, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, education, SES, disability, and spiritual or religious affiliation,
identify the relationship of spirituality with some concepts such as grief, emotion regulation, mindfulness, well-being, and forgiveness
identify how to assist clients in their moral and identity development.
