Catalog Description
The importance of cultural differences. Increasing cultural awareness and cultural sensitivity. Awareness of own cultural characteristics, diversity, and professional cultural competencies. Counseling theories cross-culturally. The role of cultural case formulation in counseling and therapy.
Course Objectives

The course aims to provide with students awareness of the role of cultural characteristics in the counseling process, learn and develop some basic skills about discovering clients’ and their own cultural background, and the influences of the cultural context in counseling.  

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:  

  1. describe multicultural counseling and multicultural issues, 

  1. identify multicultural counseling competencies, 

  1. explain individuals’ own multicultural context, 

  1. demonstrate skills and strategies in multicultural and diverse contexts, 

  1. describe social justice and advocacy.
