Catalog Description
Causes, types and stages of addiction. treatment process in addiction; medical support to addicted family member, legal process, supervised liberation process, mandatory counseling for addicted family member, family support process with systemic model, coordination of narcologist, psychiatrist and family counselor.
Course Objectives
This course aims to provide students with a framework for dealing with addiction and substance abuse and their psychosocial consequences in the family.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
explain the concepts such as addiction, substance abuse and substance abuse disorder, and codependency,
summarize various types of commonly used and abused substances,
identify of the emotional, relational, and behavioral consequences of substance abuse,
recognize the multicultural considerations for dealing with substance abuse and its consequences in the families,
develop strategies to work with addiction problems in the family.
