Catalog Description
Different cultures in Turkish society. Multicultural education through a focus on the historical, sociological, and philosophical foundations of education. Diversity based on ethnographic, demographic and status variables. Culturally biased assumptions.
Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to provide information about theories of multicultural education types, and examine multicultural education through a focus on the historical, sociological, and philosophical foundations of education. Through this course, student will examine diversity according to ethnographic, demographic and status variables to understand learner differences. 

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

 

  1. define theories of multicultural education, identity development, and social justice,
  2. identify learner differences related to cultural background, gender, ethnicity, and learning styles,
  3. argue for a school environment in which diversity is acknowledged and respected,
  4. develop a cooperative, inclusive, and purposeful learning environment to facilitate learning and achievement for all children, including special populations,

 5. analyze multicultural and pluralistic trends among diverse groups nationally and internationally.
