Catalog Description
Definition of STEM components. Importance of STEM education in early childhood. Tools and materials used for early STEM education. STEM activity plans and STEM environments appropriate for young children. Evaluation of early STEM projects.
Course Objectives
The aim of this course is to equip pre-service early childhood educators with the knowledge STEM approach and implementations of early years STEM projects.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- identify STEM approach in early childhood education,
- interpret engineering skills and technology integration in early childhood education,
- examine appropriate tools, materials and environment to plan for a STEM activity,
- design STEM projects appropriate for early childhood,
- evaluate early childhood STEM projects in terms of age and developmental appropriateness.
