Catalog Description
Historical origins of alternative education. Philosophical beliefs and features of alternative education. Curriculum elements (program, role of teachers/adults/parents, role of children, learning activities, learning environment, and educational methods, assessment) of some alternative approaches implemented national and international levels (Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, Pikler, Democratic schools, Jenaplan, Freinet, High Scope, and Homeschooling). Comparisons between alternative approaches and consideration of their suitability for wider implementation internationally-nationally. Integration of alternative educational approaches in any culture.
Course Objectives
The aim of this course is to provide information about historical, theoretical and philosophical bases of alternative education approaches. It also aims at ensuring the curriculum elements of some alternative education approaches implemented national and international contexts.
