Catalog Description
The principles used in the selection and preparation of textbooks in primary school. Textbooks’ properties with respect to the theory, approach, philosophy, and elements of the program. Textbooks’ properties with respect to scientific language, content and physical appearance. The appropriateness of the textbooks to the grade level at which they are prepared.
Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to inform undergraduate primary school students about the features of primary school textbooks and to provide them with the skills they need to evaluate and choose textbooks according to the features of the curricula, grade level and the characteristics that a good textbook should have.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

 

  1. list the principles used in the selection of primary school textbooks,
  2. evaluate the textbooks in terms of the theory, approach and philosophy of the curricula,
  3. analyze textbooks in terms of objectives, content, teaching-learning processes and evaluation features of the curriculum,
  4. evaluate the scientific language and expression used in textbooks,
  5. interpret the physical properties of textbooks such as printing, painting and shape,
  6. discuss the appropriateness of the textbook to student level,
  7. analyze the usability of textbooks.
