Catalog Description
Out-of-school learning concepts. The scope and the importance of out-of- school learning environments. Instructional methods appropriate for out- of-school learning environments (project-based learning, station technique etc.) and teaching materials. Out-of-school learning environments (museums, science centers, zoos, botanical gardens, planetariums, industrial institutions, national parks, science festivals, science camps, natural environments etc.). Improvement of out-of-school areas and environments. Design, practice and evaluation of out-of-school activities.
Course Objectives
This course aims to enable students to improve their knowledge about mathematics education in out-of-school learning environments, to develop examples of activities suitable for different out-of-school learning environments, and to learn assessment techniques.At the same time, it helps them to understand the importance of out-of-school learning in lifelong learning.
Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. explain out-of-school education and learning concepts,
2. explain the scope and the importance of out-of-school learning in mathematics education,
3. list characteristics of teaching methods, techniques and materials appropriate for out-of-school environment,
4. explain things to pay attention to the improvement of out-of-school mathematics learning areas and environments,
5. list basic principles in the planning, practice and evaluation of out-of-school activities.
